What to Expect With Your New Puppy or Kitten
Congratulations on your new puppy or kitten (or both)! Puppies and kittens are like infants in that they need lots of attention and care to develop, grow, and become a member of your household. An initial physical exam will be performed to ensure the health of your new pet and to establish a relationship with our staff.

Vaccinations
Vaccinations usually start at 6 to 8 weeks of age in dogs and 8 weeks of age in cats. We recommend these be given every 3 to 4 weeks until they are 16 weeks of age. A protocol will be recommended for your pet based on its environment and will include, but not be limited, to the following:
Dogs: distemper virus, parvovirus, hepatitis, parainfluenza, leptospirosis, bordetella, and rabies
Cats: feline herpes, calicivirus, panleukopenia, feline leukemia virus, and rabies
Health & Wellness
Your new puppy or kitten will be checked for external parasites (fleas and ticks) and intestinal parasites (roundworms, hookworms, and coccidia).
If necessary, an appropriate treatment and preventative will be recommended. Heartworm preventative will also be started.
Diet recommendations and a vaccination schedule will be discussed as well as timing of follow-up visits.
